About us

Indigenous Psychologies is a movement, a perspective, and an approach. It examines how the practices, beliefs, rituals, values and understandings specific to particular communities influence the thoughts and behaviours of those community members.

At the Centre for Indigenous Psychologies, we embrace the ethos of the Indigenous Psychologies movement by providing an inclusive physical and intellectual space, where Indigenous Psychologies are embraced, experienced and developed. In doing so, we aim to be the research and teaching Centre of choice for Indigenous Psychologies in Aotearoa and globally.

While many of our staff identify as Māori and Māori worldviews are acknowledged and prized, the Centre for Indigenous Psychologies is a space for all Indigenous Psychologies to be explored and elevated, and therefore it is a space that is open for all peoples to enjoy.
